January 14, 2009
Dear friends and family,
My grandfather, Henry "Baab" Castelino passed away earlier this evening at 9:15 pm, due to what doctors believe was cardiac arrest. The nursing home that he and Nana reside in was on lock down since before Christmas due to a viral outbreak, so unfortunately, we were not able to visit them as often as usual. Baab had been in the hospital last week with pneumonia, but he was released back to the home today at 5 pm. We find comfort in the thought that God sent him back to see Nana one more time.
At 9 pm, we received a call from the nursing home, telling us that Baab was not doing well and that we should come over immediately. When we entered his room, Baab's heart was beating faintly, and soon stopped. We are so grateful to have been with him in his last moments.
Baab and Nana are the epitome of love. It was Baab's wish to go before Nana did, and it happened for him. He was firmly devoted to Our Lady, and Wednesday is Our Lady of Perpetual Help Novena Day, so I'm sure he is with Her now.
Clayton and Esther had left early today for their two week trip to Egypt, and we were so dismayed about not being able to reach them, and how they would miss the funeral. However, Clayton called just a little while ago to say that their flight had been canceled due to a mechanical problem---they are still in town! What a blessing.

Tribute to my sister-in-law Rosy, from Mohan Prabhu
My first encounter with Rosy was long before my lat brother Henrybab met and married her. Rosy had just returned after the Second World War ended and Peace had been declared – that was about the year 1944. I saw her, her brother Mickey and Alicebai along with their father in my Aunt Juan akai’s main house which they had rented in Marnamkatta (Jeppoo, Mangalore). My first impression was that Rosy was a striking beauty, and that image remained me with to this day. Little did I imagine that she would become part of our family seven years later when my brother Henrybab fell in love with her!
As the prima donna of the Castelino family, Rosy has a place of eminence in our hearts and minds, which no one else has occupied to this day. She had wise counsel for all of us, especially to a hot headed person that I was, and a mediator when she sensed a little trouble.
My memory of Rosy of the 1940s was rekindled when I saw her picture in the family photograph with our parents and all siblings and bab’s whole family, which Sheila sent me very recently. This picture was taken a few years before I left India. What a beautiful person she was!
MAY ROSY’S SOUL REST IN ETERNAL PEACE!

Dearest Lance, Allan, Roy and Ian
I am grieved to hear that your loving dad and our dearest elder brother is no more. It was nice to hear that he had a very peaceful death. He must be enjoying the heavenly vision now. Bab has left behind beautiful memories of his life which cannot be forgotten. To us brothers and sisters he has been like a little dad who sacrifised and worked hard to help in raising up a large family. It was through his help, encouragement and support that I was able to visit Canada thrice and meet all my near and dear ones there; for which, I am most grateful. He loved and cared for our parents deeply, especially in their old age. I praise and thank God for having given us such a loving brother, whom we can never forget. God blessed him with a loving wife, devoted sons, caring daugthers-in-law and beautiful grandchildren. Dad/Bab will surely receive a great reward in heaven and he will continue to intercede for us. May God give all of us courage and strength to bear this great loss. He will always remain with us in spirit. We, in the community, offered a Mass for the repose of his soul. May his soul rest in peace.
United in grief,
Yours,
Aunty Paulette

HENRY GREGORY MARIAN CASTELINO (1918-2009)
AND
ANASTASIA REGINA (ROSY) CASTELINO (née REGO) (1921-2009)
(A TRIBUTE from Mohan Prabhu)
With the demise of my brother Henry who, being the eldest sibling, we affectionately addressed as Baab, and his wife Rosy just five days later who, being our eldest sister-in-law, we addressed as Vohni, an era of longevity and a loving relationship of 57 years came to an end. Our father, who died 41 years ago, had set the earlier record of 82 years and my brother beat that record by eight years and a half, establishing a new record for the entire Castelino clan. Henry was also the first among nine surviving siblings to have passed away in 82 years, two having died in their early childhood before my brother Joe and I were born.
Henry was very devout and a devoted son and brother of eight siblings, a loving husband and father of four sons and grandfather of five. He had immense faith in Christ and Mother Mary, which radiated throughout his life and in his family, attending daily mass with Rosy when they were in good health and reciting daily prayers with all members of the family even after he emigrated to Canada 35 years ago.
Along with his brother Joe, and for about ten years along with me, he and Rosy cared for and looked after our aged parents to their dying day and only then left India, a privilege which I didn’t get being away oceans away.
As the eldest brother, he was our role model and after our parents passed away we looked up to Henry and Rosy for guidance and words of wisdom as they stood in their place. Henry gave my brother and Joe our start in life by arranging a job for us in the Army Ordnance where he was working. Rosy was a true inspiration and we all regarded and treated her as the prima donna of the Castelino family. They were very supportive of my career and academic pursuits as well as overseas adventures. I lived with Henry and Rose for thirteen years in Bombay. Thirteen years after I left India he and Rosy and their two younger boys followed my wife and me to Canada to join their older two sons who had come a few years earlier.
Henry and Rosy did not have the joy of raising daughters but they were more than compensated by their daughters-in-law Sheila and Felicia whom they treated as their own daughters and for very good reason. It was Rosy who selected Felicia and Sheila as brides for Allan and Roy. Rosy and Henry lived with Roy and Sheila. Sheila who was orphaned before her marriage, fully reciprocated their love and cared for her substitute parents. Henry and Rosy truly loved their grandchildren and they in turn loved them.
Henry and Rosy were a generous couple, worked ceaselessly for the community in their adopted country, organizing picnics and social events. Rosy, in particular, was instrumental in match-making, and in offering her sober counseling and words of wisdom.
Henry was a self-made man. He experienced poverty in his very young days when our father had fallen on hard times due to the bankruptcy of his sardine oil business. Our father was following in the footsteps of his own father who was a building contractor. Henry was very enterprising and after retiring from the Army Ordnance at 40 with 20 years of service, he started his own shipping claims business from which he retired before leaving India in 1973, handing over the reins to his younger brother Joe. In Canada, his business itch persisted.
In Canada Henry helped his sons Lance and Roy start a business, the main branch of which eventually was headed by Roy and Sheila and now to be taken over by their son Clayton and his bride Esther. They are thus carrying on the business tradition of five generations
Henry and Rosy were a remarkable couple. They loved each other immensely and were truly blessed by God for their faith and devotion, veritably a match made in heaven. While Henry was fully aware that Rosy was beside him during his last few hours, Rosy was not. He smiled upon her as if to say that he was preparing a place for her beside him in heaven very soon!
Henry was my link to my past, present and future. He was, I believe, the only one among siblings who saw our paternal grandparents, and when our parents passed away more than 37 years ago, he and my brother Joe were blessed to be with them during their last days. He is my link to the present. In Canada, I am the only uncle Roy, Lance, Ian and Alan and their spouses and their children have. They also have their aunt, my sister Iris. Henry will be my link to the future generations. Henry and Rose are survived by their sons and two daughters in law, five grandchildren, a grand daughter in law and a grand son-in-law. Some day they may be curious to trace their roots, and the genealogy of the Castelino family which I prepared at Henry & Rosy’s Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2001 should give them a clue. I hope that when they write their genealogy they will find a little space in it to add a footnote that established my link with their ancestors who had followed my wife Clareen and me to Canada thirteen years after we left India. I am sure they will solve the puzzle why I do not bear the Castelino name!
MAY GOD GIVE ETERNAL PEACE TO A TRULY REMARKABLE COUPLE,
MY BROTHER HENRY AND SISTER-IN-LAW ROSY!

Dearest Shiela and Roy:
May God give you and the family the grace and strength at this time. What I would like to share with you is that the Bible says "to be absent in the body is to be present with the Lord" these words have given me comfort as I am sure it will do for you. Your parents are now with the Lord where they belong. We are all here in transition. From the day we are born we count the days till we are with our heavenly father.Your parents have been a great influence to many people. They were a blessing to many and the ICCA as a tribute to them would like to donate to a charity of your choice. Please forward funeral details and a photograph if possible of your mum so we can put it on the website.
If there is anything you need please do not hesitate to contact us.
God Bless you and the family,

My dear Allan, Felicia, Roy, Sheila, Lance and Ian,
With profound sorrow we share your grief and mourn with you the sad demise of your dear Dad and Mom and my dear Bab and Voni. Though we were expecting it for some time, the news of their death came as a blow to us. May God grant them eternal rest in peace. Bab and Voni were two wonderful people, loving, caring, sharing, helpful always, cheerful and happy and welcomed us always with a smile of their faces. We experienced a true Christian love in their presence.
To me, Bab was a father figure and Voni, a second mother. I was very young when they got married and at the age of 11, came to Bombay to continue my schooling and college. Voni treated me just like a daughter from the start showering her love and affection on me and I was there, helping her and playing with her sons like an older sister. Her letters were always addressed to me as "Dora girl", even when I had grand children. Voni's jokes, stories and experiences kept us all entertained. She was always there with us, selecting our clothes for feasts, marriages, present during our pregnancies and deliveries, guiding us in every way. Christmas and Easter was one big feast with all of us together. We thank God she was our eldest sister-in-law who kept us united together with love right to the end and taught us values to emulate. We too will miss both Bab and Voni. They are gone but will live in our hearts till we meet again. They are now both together enjoying the brilliant vision of God with angels and saints in heaven.
Love to all

Dear Sheila,
We are very sad to hear about the sad demise of Aunt Rose & Uncle Henry. We remember them & will be praying for them. My dad (Bona) was very sad. We will really miss them a lot. We remember that on Lidwin's wedding Jan 18 1992, they helped us a lot. In same month, they passed away. Uncle & aunt were very loving persons. I'm sure they will pray for us & bless us from heaven.
Thank you

Hello Roy and Sheila:
Just wanted to extend my heartfelt sympaties to you both on the passing of your beloved dad. I know you feel the emptiness of his passing but the wonderful memories you have will sustain you and I am sure you are drawing comfort from the fact that he is at peace and in a better place.
I did not get a chance to extend my condolences at the funeral on Saturday - it was a beautiful church service and the two boys paid a fitting tribute to their granddad.

Dear Roy & Sheila,
Edna and myself are very sorry to hear about the passing away of your loving Dad.
Please accept our most heartfelt sympathies. Words may not be enough to heal your sorrow, but I hope his memory will give you courage to bear this irreparable loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and all your family members especially at this time. May his soul rest in peace. May you in time find comfort in healing your grief.
Mr. Henry Castelino was a brilliant and intelligent, kind and helpful man, always smiling. It is not only a great coincidence, but also luck and honour that I should be present for his funeral services, far away from the place where I first knew the great man. It brings me fond memories of the time when as a 19-year old lad, I worked for him in Bombay. He had his own company then, Ian Roy & Company, in Sassoon Dock Area of Colaba. Sometimes I used to go work for him at Mahim, at the prominent cluster of the land-mark green buildings of another era: 'Nirvana'. My first trip to the Customs Area was one when I accompanied him for the first time to Ballard Pier, giving me a few tips on how to trace lost cargo.
We often say: 'What a small world'. A small world it really is. The memories linger on.
You had a beautiful Funeral Mass and burial for your Dad, and a very warm and compassionate attendance by your relatives and friends at the reception in the Church Hall.
In your healing, we pray.
Yours in sorrow

To the Castellino fly in grief
Its with much sadness we learnt about Uncle Henrys demise and before we could react we got an email about our dear Aunty Rosie too joining him. They were an in separable couple and so in death too. They lived a very graceful and peaceful life and I am sure God in his mercy gave them that peace to submit to his will. We are glad to have met them both whilst visiting Toronto at their cute little hospital home and I was shocked at uncle Henry's hospitality and he made sure we had some nice chocolate cake and aunty remembered and recognized me was the icing on the cake. We got a few nice pictures with both of them and we will treasure the friendship we shared over the years.
My sincere condolences to Lancy Alan Roy and Ian and their families.
We pray for their souls to Rest in Peace.

Hi Shiela.
Our thoughts and prayers have of course been with you and your family over the past while and especially during these past days.
It was wonderful to see such a large turnout for Henry's mass on Saturday but of course, we weren't at all surprised.
Henry was a lovely, gentle man and to know him and Rose was a priviledge. I knew when I heard of Henry's passing that Rose would surely follow him as they were joined at the hip and always meant to be together. I was saddened but not surprised to receive your email yesterday.
Roy and Shiela, your family is definitely blessed to have had these two wonderful people play such an important role in your lives. Their goodness and humility shows in all of you. I pray that God will bless them and will continue to bless your family as well.
Take care.

Dear Sheila, Roy, Clayton/Esther, Crystal, Chantal & the Castelino Family,
We were pained to hear the sad news of the demise of Aunty Rose. Aunty Rose was a true rose - so gentle & sweet. She had a gift - a gift of friendship. She was a good human being, ever so thoughtful and ever-willing to help people.
We cannot forget how she welcomed us & looked after us so well when we visited Canada for the first time in 1991. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed having guests, especially those new to Canada - making them comfortable.
She was very kind to Gilbert & me and always made it a point to visit us whenever she came to Bombay, inspite of her delicate health. She was also very fond of our children and always wished them good. She loved to compliment people and always had a kind word for everyone.
At Clayton's wedding, she told me in her soft voice "subit kapad neslai" and when I asked her "what about me", she replied "tu hi subit distai". This just shows how sweeet she was. How can I forget such kind words ? Aunty Rose, you will always be fondly remembered by us all. You will always be in our thoughts and prayers. Aunty Rose & Uncle Henry were a model of a loving couple whom we would wish to emulate.
Our heartfelt condolences to Roy/Sheila, Allan/Felicia, Lance, Ian and the entire Castelino family, and also her nurse Judy who cared for her so much. May God bless you all & give you the strength to bear this loss. May her soul rest in peace.

We are with you & will pray for Aunty's & Uncle's souls that they may have eternal peace & rest in heaven. Both are so fortunate to be with each other. Uncle really missed her so much that he prayed to God to bring his wife to him & that prayer was heard.
January 24th (the day of the funeral) we will be specially praying for Aunty's soul. This day is also Mom & Dad's 47th Wedding Anniversary & Karan's 19th birthday. I guess its Avinash's birthday as well. Please include them in your prayers.

No matter how old one is - its always difficult to say goodbye to a parent or dear one and we share in your sorrow. Dear Sheila,
This must be so heart breaking to see them go so quickly. The biggest consolation you all can obtain from this sad departure is that your dearest Mom is now free from pain and in the hands of her heavenly father -and near her beloved husband. Sufferings always take us closer to the Lord - as they who suffer here on earth share in the sorrows of the cross - your dear Mom did so for many years. Two great people with two great lives led to the fullest! - at a great age too. They have been surely blessed by the Lord in every way.
We at this time pray for each of you in these difficult moments to follow - especially for having to go through this pain once again - and so quickly. The Lord knows best and so we surrender to him. Thank you for informing me. We will be there to pray with you all.
God Bless and fond regards from Collin and me.

Dear Roy and Sheila,
So so sorry to hear the sad news about mum. Please accept our sympathies. I don't know what to say. It just seems to be a bit too much, too soon. Please, please take care of yourselves. Again, please remember that she is out of her misery and that dad has claimed his 'Rosie" back. He never left her far away from him when he was here on earth and he wasn't going to this time when he's in Heaven. I'm sure he wanted to enjoy Heaven with his Rosie. May both their souls rest in peace. We will be praying for both their souls and for you all too, to weather this emotional storm you'll are going through.
Lots of love
May, Glenn, Gavin and Calvin

Dearest Sheila, (I miss your sweet smile)
Brings me to tears when I see this. I appreciate you thinking of me and sending this to us. He will always have a special place in my heart and in my soul. He was a wonderful man, and totally reminded me of my beloved Daddy who’s loss I mourn until this day…its been 16 years.
May his soul rest peacefully, I pray for the family to cope with his loss and may he look down from heaven upon all of you. He has joined my Dad in heaven and they will take good care of us.
Love to Aunty Rosie and peace and hugs to all.
Please convey our condolences to Roy, Lance, Ian and if I am missing anyone please do the needful for us.

Hi Sheila,
Please accept our heartfelt sympathy and condolences on the passing of Roy's Dad. We were very fortunate to have been informed by Lorraine (Iona's sister). We were unable to meet with any of you on saturday and condole in person. The service was extremely solemn and well organized. I am sure Roy's Dad is very pleased with the all of you. May his soul rest in Peace.
I hope and pray that Roy's Mum is doing well.
Look after yourselves.
Bye for now.

Thank you for keeping us informed about Uncle Henry and all the lovely stories of his life.
My happy memories of Uncle Henry will stay with me forever and I am so glad that Justine and I were able to see him for one last time at Shelly and Josh's wedding in September.

Dear Sheila, Roy, Felicia, Allan and family
It came as quite a shock to hear that Auntie Rose had left us so soon after Uncle Henry. But it does seem right that they are back together again and no longer in any pain or suffering.
I will always remember her wave back to me in the church at Shelly & Josh's wedding.
I spoke with Dad last night and he was obviously sad about losing his sister - he asked me to send you all his love.
We continue to think of you all those miles away and will especially do so on Saturday.
All our love
Philip, Justine, Eddie, Natasha, Mum and Dad

Dearest Lance, Alan, Roy & Ian,
I am grieved to hear that your loving dad and our dearest elder brother is no more. It was nice to hear that he had a very peaceful death. He must be enjoying the heavenly vision now.
Bab has left behind beautiful memories of his life which cannot be forgotten. To us brothers and sisters he has been like a little dad who sacrificed and worked hard to help in raising up a large family! It was through his help, encouragement, and support that I was able to visit Canada thrice and meet all my near and dear ones there; for which, I am most grateful. He loved and cared for our parents deeply, especially in their old age. I praise and thank God for having given us such a loving brother, whom we can never forget.
God blessed him with a loving wife, devoted sons, caring daughters-in-law and beautiful grand-children. Dad/Bab will surely receive a great reward in heaven, and he will continue to intercede for us. May God give all of us courage and strength to bear this great loss. He will always remain with us in spirit.
We, in the Community, offered a Mass for the repose of his soul. May his soul rest in peace.
United in grief,
Yours,
A. Paulette.

I always think of them and will keep them in my prayers. Mrs. Castelino was a great friend of my mothers too and they were always very gracious whenever we went to their place and she organized a lot of Mahim functions when we first arrived in Canada.
I hope he died peacefully, but having said that I also know he was ill for quite a while. Anyway, please offer Sheila and Roy and the rest of the family our sympathies on this sad occasion.

Dear Roy, Sheila, and the children
Please take comfort in knowing that we never need to face our sorrows and challenges alone. It is hard
to console you in moments like these. But we know for a fact that the Lord alone can comfort and heal
your broken hearts.
1 Thessalonians 4 verse 13 onwards – the Lord tells us the truth about our loved ones who have died.
He tells us not to be sad as those who have no hope. Just as we believe Jesus died and rose again,
HE tells us we who are alive on the day the Lord comes there will be the shout of the Archangel’s voice
and at the sound of God’s trumpet, the Lord himself will come down from heaven, our loved ones who
have died will be raised to life first. Then we who are living at that time will be gathered up along with
them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. So there is hope we will be united with our loved ones
who have gone ahead of us and we will always be with the Lord.
Please accept our deepest and heartfelt condolences on your loss. Lord grant Roy, Sheila and their family
the serenity to accept the things they cannot change; hope in the midst of sorrow, and peace & comfort
in the midst of pain.
May Almighty GOD grant Aunty Rose eternal peace, joy, and happiness in HIS kingdom.
She is also united with her dear husband.

Dear Sheila & Roy,
We’re at a loss to know what to say to all of you…it’s a shock and we’re very saddened to know about Mrs. Castelino’s passing, especially so close to Mr. Castelino. While there is some comfort in knowing they are reunited again for eternity, it’s difficult to lose two parents and grand-parents in any circumstance. My husband and I are still dealing with the loss of my father-in-law from mid November….not sure it’s something you can ever come to terms with.
Please know that we are here for all of you – if there is anything I can do, please do not hesitate to call me.
God bless to all of you – you are in our prayers and thoughts. We’ll be there Saturday.
With love

It's definately been a testing time no doubt particularly the last couple of days and as far as i can see a lot of pain and suffering has been laid to rest.
Our prayers are with you and family Sheila and feel proud for all the things you had done to make their lives lighter and sweeter. Maybe Dad thought of these words before departing from Rose : "There are many rooms in my Father's house. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going away to prepare a place for you?" Let's pray they stay united and draw inspiration in this journey of ours,

Hello Sheila/Roy and the rest of the family members:
I write to convey our condolences, once again, on the death of your dear mother. It must be quite an emotional journey for you all, having just said your good byes to your father. Hope the good Lord will give you all the strength and graces to overcome the pain & anguish at the loss of yet, another dear one. Our meetings with your parents-in-law were few but it was always a pleasure to meet & chat with them. They always held a certain dignity and calm poise and were always welcoming on the couple of occasions we were over to your old place for a coffee after Mass at our old Parish Church of St Andrew’s. Our thoughts & prayers are with you all. With warm love, Oretta & Manuel, Darryl, Ryan

Sheila, Roy, Clayton, Crystal & Chantal,
We were so sorry to hear you’ve lost both U.Henry and A.Rose, so swiftly, one after the other. Please accept our heartfelt condolences – I know this must be especially painful for you all, especially Clayton, Crystal & Chantal. We’ve heard so much of them though Syra and can only imagine what truly wonderful people they were and how very close they were to you. I really do regret not having had the pleasure of meeting them. Syra used to tell us about them whenever she returned from Canada and we realized that they were indeed a most amazing couple and their love for each other and for their family, nurtured and filled all around them with love, caring and happiness. U.Henry went and his dear A.Rose followed him so quickly – how beautiful is that. And how sad! They are together and their spirit will always be with you. When we meet wonderful people like this, all I can think of is how fortunate we are to have known them, their presence is a gift – they make life worth living. When they leave, there’s a void that is so hard to fill.. May cherished memories be with you always. We remembered you all at Mass today and said a special prayer for a special couple. May their souls rest in Peace.
With Sympathy Brian, Sonia & Marissa. -------------------------

Thank you for sharing with us the last precious moments you had with Baab. An example of the epitome of his love, as well as your Nana, was the way they welcomed me into the family. I was Sheila Jr's room mate but yet they embraced me and included me in all family events. When I visited he would open the door with a welcoming smile . I will never forget that love and kindness. Our prayers are with Baab and also the rest of your family.

Dear Crystal
Thank you for the picture of your nana. I know how much you cared for your nana and how deeply pained you are at the moment. Words would mean nothing at this moment, only time will heal this pain. But remember that you loved and cared for your nana and gave her the best always. The times you visited her in the nursing home and entertained her and the other residents was amazing, especially when youth today have no time for old people. Your nana & grandpa will always be watching you and praying for you all.
You take care.
Love you.
Aunty Daisy (India)

The funeral service was so beautifully arranged and the girls did a fantastic job of speaking about their Nana. May her soul rest in peace.
Bye for now.

Chantal, I read your email to Sonia about your Baab's demise. Your dad phoned me to let me know about Aunty Rosy's funeral. I really wanted to come to her funeral but I had a busy day on Friday and I could not get an early morning Sat flight to reach on time for the funeral. The earliest I could get to Toronto flying Sat was after 4 PM and that was too late. Your grandparents meant a lot to me. They were simply the best people I have known along with your dad and mom. I will always keep your grandparents in my prayers.

Dear Lancy, Allan, Roy, Ian & Families,
Please accept our sympathies on the demise of both your Parents who followed each other on their journey to their heavenly abode. Convey our wishes to all the family members as well.
We remember both of them so vividly during our growing up years in Nirvana.....your Dad the soft spoken unassuming yet a distinguised Gentleman that he was and Mum Rosy...her helpful nature and her charming ways with people play before our eyes as we whisper a prayer for them.
Joining me is my Mother Mrs. Angela Pais, my sister Rita Rose, My brothers Tommy & Johnny and their families. Praying that you & your families find solace in these sad moments.
GOD BLESS

Dear Chantal,
Although I had the priviledge to know your Nana for a short time, she left an impression on our lives. She was warm, affectionate and always caring of the well being of others. Your Nana use to make sure we had some refreshments whenever we visited your home.
Later on, even though she failed to recognize me, she was always warm and hospitable. Always worried that I had something to eat and drink. I have never left the Nursing home without a warm and cared for feeling.
The thought that comes to mind is, Aunty Rosie was a very gracious lady indeed.

Dearest Allan, Felicia, Sean, Shelly & Josh,
We would like to convey our sincere heartfelt condolences on the passing away of mum. It looks like dad did not want her to be alone for too long. We do remember the times we spent with both mum and dad during Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving and many other occasions especially during our recent visit to the nursing home on Sun, Dec 7 when they both joined me in singing "You are my Sunshine". They will be missed by one and all and fond memories of them will always remain in our hearts and prayers. May God give you the courage to bear this second great loss. May their Souls Rest in Peace.

My dearest children Sheila, Roy, Allan, Felicia, and the rest of the Castelino Clan,
Ingrid called me to say that our dearest Mr. & Mrs. Castelino are no more. Indeed it was sad to hear about the loss of both your parents within a short difference of time. My sincere and heartfelt sympathies to all of you, children and grandchildren too.
My son Granville, when he first stepped onto Canadian soil, had only one address to contact - that of Mrs. Rose Castelino. This loving couple welcomed my son all at once, for every festive ocassion he was invited to share a good meal with them, even though I had other close relatives in Canada. I am deeply indebted to Aunty Rose, her loving husband, her sons Roy and Allan and their wives. Dear children, your parents were wonderful people and came from good, hardworking families. Mr. Castelino's Dad was a matriculate in those days and if he had gone to Bombay to work, he would've done extremely well. Mrs. Castelino was from the Silva family (her maternal uncles) who were landlords and believe it or not, owned a Rolls Royce at that time which was later sold for a song.
The Rego's are from Thottam, but settled in Kalianpur. Rose was born in Udipi. Allan's wife Felicia, belongs to this family too. Both Aunty Rose and U. Henry have done good for a lot of families in India as well as Canada. They were living saints. devout, spending their time doing good to others and today they are both in heaven, for sure.
Thanks to Sheila for reminding Ingrid to inform me about the sad news. Thanks to boys for their closeness to both parents. Thanks a million to Felicia and Sheila for taking care of Aunty Rose and uncle and for visiting them frequently in the nursing home and seeing to their needs inspite of their busy lives. Many outsiders told me, when I enquired about their health of the couple, that the two daugthers-in-law were wonderful, always close to the in-laws.
Congrats to both these girls in the midst of their bereavement. Aunty Rose treated them just like daughters.
My condolences to all the family, especially the grandkids who I'm sure, miss them very much.
My love and loads of gratitude to one and all of you who accepted my son like a member of your family.
Aunty Rose and Uncle Henry - May their souls rest in peace.
Yours in sorrow
Mrs. Mary D'Silva

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this very difficult time. However, I am convinced that your dad and now your mum are at Rest with Our Lord waiting for them at the pearly gates of heaven. If you need any help, we will be honoured to help.

Dear Roy, Sheila and fly,
We are so sorry to hear about Uncle Henry and Aunty Rosy passing away. May their souls rest in peace. It almost seems like they couldn't bear to stay apart even after Uncle passed away. Such was their love. We always remember their visits to India during the Christmas holidays. They were so energetic - morning mass, cooking, entertaining etc. and so regular in their habits. I always marveled at how easily they slipped back into Indian mode the moment they stepped into A/5 Nirvana. Aunty Rosy enjoyed wearing her silk sarees and always looked so graceful in them. Uncle was happiest amongst his files. We always shared a 5 a.m tea together Uncle, Dad, and the three of us. We were always up studying for some exam or the other. Dad, Mum and Atul offer their condolences too.
Love,
Seema, Atul (India)

We are deeply grieved to hear of the sad demise of your dear dad. No words can really comfort or heal the pain of losing someone so dear to your heart. May GOD of eternal love give you and the family comfort in your sadness, hope in the face of despair, and courage during this very painful time. Please hold on to the many beautiful memories that you have deep within your hearts which will help soothe the pain. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family.

We were deeply saddened to hear about the passing away of dear Dad and Mum who were not only such an exemplary, loving couple but also loving and caring parents and grandparents and friends to so many of us. It is very difficult to accept this great loss but we have to believe that God was kind to them and ended their suffering by taking them to their heavenly abode and granting them their life long wish of being together. They have both left such a wonderful legacy and they will both intercede for all of you from their heavenly abode. They were so fortunate to have such a wonderful family who lovingly and tirelessly cared of them till the end. All of you will be blessed abundantly for all your love and sacrifices.
Please know that although we are so far away in India at present, we are with all of you in spirit, thoughts and prayers. Please accept our heartfelt sympathies.

We were sorry to hear about Rose's passing although I can hear Henry rejoice in heaven. This must be a very difficult time for you to lose both parents within a week. You told me last week, that they were ready and Rose's passing so quickly only proves that Clay mentioned in the eulogy that were so "in sync". Boy, are they ever!! Our thoughts are with you - We hope there will be just as many people in the church to comfort you as there were for Henry's funeral. We wish you strength . May God be with you.

Our sincere condolences go out to the family members of Mr. Henry Castelino. Uncle Castelino as he was fondly known to us, was a kind and loving gentleman. Our memories of him, going way back to his young days in Nirvana, will be cherished and fondly remembered. It was a pleasure knowing him and may
God grant his soul eternal peace.

No person is every truly alone
Those who live no more
Whom we loved
Echo still within our thoughts
Our words, our hearts.
And what they did
And who they were
becomes a part of all that we are,
Forever.

Dear Lance, Allan, Felicia, Roy, Sheila and Ian
We were shocked to hear about the sad demise of mum in such a short span. We are sure the Lord has a perfect plan and thought it would be the best place for them to be together. The most important thing one leaves behind in this world is the priceless gift of love and its endless memories and we have so many great memories of mum. Please accept our heartfelt sympathy on the loss of mum and dad and rest assured you all are in our prayers so that you'll find comfort and peace to tide through his difficult time.
Love

Dear Roy, Sheila and family
I got the news of the sad demise of your Mum and Dad but could not be in touch with you as I am presently in Pune on deputation for the last four months since Oct 15, 08 on a special assignment of ERP (SAP) implementation.
Mum, Loretta and Loren join me in expressing our deepest sympathies, though delayed.
We remember them in our prayers that they rest in peace in the land of the Lord and that he gives you the strength at this time of grief.
Will be in touch.
love and regards

To Lance, Ian, Allan, Roy and all your families
I was saddened to hear the news of your parent's deaths.
The blog was sent to me today. I remember the good times
in Nirvana and in spite of all the mischievous fun your parents
had a lot of patience with us. I recall A/5 Nirvana and other
memories that your parents happily contributed to our growing
days and to the Nirvana Society. May their souls rest in peace.
It was good to see pictures of all your families too on the blog.
Len Rego, his folks, Sequeiras, Sheila Vaz and Malcolm Dunbar,
Trevor and few of the Mahim folks live close to us in Perth.
Our sincere sympathies
